This past weekend my sister, Kellie came to town to celebrate my Mom’s birthday! She is currently in her second year of college and lives in Eugene! We miss her a ton when she is gone. When she comes home, she always stays with me and is like another one of my children. I adore her and it’s so fun to have her around. Kellie is the type of person that always has to be doing something. She comes home so we can entertain her. Sometime this is a challenging task, but normally my boys keep her plenty busy!

I’m trying to recruit Kellie to come to work with me. She doesn’t have the personality or the attention span to sit at a desk from 9-5. Selfishly, I suggested she go to school for graphic design. I could get so much more done if I had someone else to help me design. She just started taking her art classes and to my excitement, she is really enjoying them. Yay!

She called me to see if I could help her with her art project when she was home. Of course, I was excited to help! Apparently, her assignment was to pick a designer that she had learned about in class and create something that the designer would have created. The piece was suppose to encompass the design style of the designer.

Kellie had picked David Carson. I had never heard of him. Have you? Check out David Carson Designs to get a feel for his design style!

Thankfully, Kellie already had an idea of what she wanted to do and it was just a matter of me using my photoshop magic to make it happen! She has been getting A- on all of her work and was really going for the A+. If her teacher doesn’t give her an A+, then I am going to drive down there and bribe her with some cupcakes! That should work, right?

Here is her completed project!

What do you think? We did a T-shirt both front and back, a skateboard deck, and a skate helmet.

Here is the T-shirt

Did I mention we thought the shirt was so cool that we actually printed out iron on decals and created the shirt! It was super cute, but the pink color wasn’t as HOT as we wanted. We are currently on the hunt for a screen printed version. Do you have any resources for a low run screen print shop? I really want one of these shirts too.

Here is the skate deck. I don’t skate, but after designing this I think I might start!

Lastly, here is the skate helmet. I think it’s really cute too. I want to wear this helmet. Though helmets are not very becoming, this one is definitely super cute. Who cares if you have helmet hair afterwards?

Looking back, I really wish I had gotten a graphic design degree. There is so much that I don’t know. I know my business degree is definitely an asset, but if I could go back to school and do it all over again, I think I would get a degree in graphic design. Since there is no magic rewind button, I am only left with moving ahead. Thankfully, I can live vicariously through my sister and try to piggy back on her education and learn everything I can. Who needs to go back when you have a younger sisters that can help you move forward?

Thanks Kellie for including me on this assignment! I’m anxiously awaiting your grade on this project. I really enjoyed our time together and you are going to be an amazing designer and I can’t wait to watch you grow and change as a designer!

Love you sister!
