This party is a long time coming. Almost 3 years ago, in fact. That tells you have far I am behind on some of my evergreen posts. You will see those posts mixed in with more recent parties over the coming months. Many of these parties have never been seen anywhere! I’m excited to finally be sharing these fun Rock Climbing Birthday Party Ideas with you!
This review is based strictly on my opinion. I was provided these samples free of charge by Blume Box to provide my honest review. In addition, some links in this post contain affiliate links and I will receive a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking on my link (Amazon links). All ideas and opinion are my own.
it’s all about the invite
You know my favorite place to start with any birthday party is the invitation. This party was no exception. We took the boys to the same rock climbing venue where we had the party at and shot a few photos of them climbing. Photos are always a great addition to your invitation.
Check out how we used this photo to create the invitation. All of my invitations are always double-sided which give me a lot of “design real-estate” to work with. Below you will see the front and back of the invitation along with the custom Rock Climbing Address Wrap we created.
I say this time and time again, but the invitation really does set the tone of the party! Admittedly, I don’t get the mail very often, BUT when I do and there is an invitation waiting for me, I get so excited! I love printed invitations, maybe I am old school that way!
rock climbing party décor
Another important detail at any party is the décor. I am sort of a stickler so I always set a color palette and a theme. Then I make sure everything fits in one of those two categories. In the end, it makes the rest of my decisions so much easier! For our Rock Climbing Birthday Party, I knew the theme was rock climbing. I pretty much researched anything rock climbing related, from sayings to equipment used, and everything in between. I try to incorporated all of those items throughout the party.
My color palette was shades of grey, teal blue, and orange. Plus, I added in kraft details here and there. At this point, I am not sure why I choose that color palette, but I do have a Pinterest board called Color Palettes. I throw any color combos that I like in this board and frequently consult it before I select my colors. Since I am a crazy font addict, I usually set all the fonts/typefaces that I am going to use. You don’t have to go to that extreme, but that is sort of my job! Haha!
Since we had this party at Stoneworks Climbing Gym, I knew the climbing walls would be the perfect backdrop. I love the look of the climbing wall in the background. I also try to add little details throughout the party. These Tolsby Ikea Frames are one of my favorite additions. They come in several colors (or you can spray paint them). They are only $0.99 too! I mean, you can’t beat that.
Here are a few more examples of how I use these little signs as part of my décor. . .
Another trick is adding printables to any of your food or food containers. This is an easy way to carry your theme over. Plus, the kids and parents love this!
food + favors
As I mentioned above, adding printables to your food or favors is an easy way to carry your theme throughout and really doubles as décor. I try to add a printable to each and every item from the cupcakes to the drinks. I literally add a detail or something printed to anything I can think of.
For this cake, I did a two-tier cake from the Garden Home Bales. They always do the best job. Did you know you can save money by stacking your own cakes? I ordered a 10″ and either an 8″ or 6″ and just stacked them myself. Make sure you tell them not to add a boarder so you can stack it more easily. I have a wooden dowel contraption that I use. It inserts into the bottom can and then the top cake sits on top. I know you can also use straws to disperse the weight too. As far as the décor goes, I just had them do a simple light grey cake because I wanted to add my own details. The ever so talented Brittany, of Edible Details made all the fun hand grips. My job was easy, I simply placed them all over the cake. I added a cutout photo of the boys as the cake topper! This cake was too much fun!
Cookie decorators these days are truly so talented. If you ask me, they should all be called Cookie Artists! These Rock Climbing cookies remind me of little canvases. Oh, Sugar! Events gets all the credit for these pretty little things! Aren’t they just fabulous?
These cupcakes were another fun addition. Check out these fondant cupcake toppers! Edible Details also made these little gems. Don’t they look incredible? Plus, they are edible! If buying edible toppers isn’t your thing, you can pick up paper toppers like these. They are quick and easy to assemble and you can add them throughout the party.
Sticking with the party theme, I added in some prepackaged Trail Mix from Trader Joe’s. I literally just slapped a label on them, which makes them look so much more festive! I mean that is some epic looking trail mix! See how easy it is to liven things up!
You know I am a sucker for Orange Tic Tac Candies. They are so delicious and guess what? They totally matched the party colors! Win win!!
Drinks are another opportunity for you to add a printable to. These mini water bottles from Trader Joe’s are perfect for little hands. They are so cute, but cost more than the large bottles. They are totally worth every penny!
Typically, I try to give a favor that the kids can use long after the party is over. As a mom of 4 kids, we get enough trinkets. I always try and selecte a party favor that will be useful. For this party, along with all the treats we gave the kids orange water bottles. We had two different varieties, but they were both perfect. Did you see how I added a label to the front of the bottle and a thank you tag? It totally ups these water bottle’s game.

It’s crazy how much my boys have changed in just 3 years. Having all of these photos and these fond memories is really priceless.
