Portland is the craft beer capital of the world (I might have just made that up)! And if it’s not, it totally should be. If there is one thing we do well in this great state, it’s making good beer. It seemed only fitting to throw my husband a Beer Tasting Birthday Party. Great guy + Great Beer = Successful Birthday Party. Do you follow my logic here?

It seems like I spend most of my time throwing kids parties. My sweet hubby is always a trooper and helps me out. I wanted to do something special for his birthday for a change. Oriental Trading made it super easy with their large selection of beer themed items. You can also check out my full party post on how to Throw a Backyard Beer Tasting Bash over on their blog.
diy beer crafts + decorations
I typically think of possible decorations first. Oriental Trading has a bunch of fun items like Flattened Bottle Caps and DIY 5″ x 7″ Frame. I basically just added some spray paint and a little punny print (Beer Makes me Hoppy) and I had the perfect little frame that I could place by the bar.
Check out my full tutorial DIY Bottle Cap Picture frame and you can make one too in just 5 simple steps! It’s literally that easy!
You can also add in the large fun Mylar balloons. These come in several different letter, numbers, and colors to meet your party needs. I opted for the word “Beer.” You never would have guessed that, right?
Add decorative labels to things like cups, popcorn boxes, etc. to carry your theme throughout your party. These are just simple details that your guests really notice and appreciate.
A beer tasting birthday party wouldn’t be complete without a Beer Tasting Station. This is really easy to do and you can do a blind taste test OR you can simply have your guests rate the 4 beers you selected.
If you want all the details on how to re-create this activity, check out my Beer Tasting Activity Post.
Here is the reader’s digest version. I basically selected 4 different flavors of beer. I used these Medium Kraft Paper Bags added a Backyard Beer Bash Bag Sticker + Bottle Neck Sticker, and tied them off with some Natural Jute.
If you want to add in some bling, place a Silver Glitter Table Number into each of the empty beer bottles.
The trays are super easy to setup too. Cut out the FREE Printable Tray Liner. I had mine laminated in case we spilled any beer. And you know we did! It also made for super easy clean up and now these are totally reusable for other parties.
Don’t these Mini Shot Glasses look darling full of bubbly beer? I just love how little and cute they are.
Once you have everything set up, start sipping that beer! Have your guests fill out the Beer Party Place Mats and rate each of the four beers. This is tasty and fun! Plus, it gives your guests something to do.
Looking for another fun activity? Can you even have a Beer themed birthday party without having Beer Pong set up? I thought these Metallic Gold Cups were a fun twist on traditional Red Solo Cups. Add a fun Beer Pong Label and grab some Table Tennis Balls and you are all set!
You can even take it a step further and setup a beer pong tournament. Doesn’t that sound fun? I think we will try that next time.
delicious desserts + beer
Who would have thought to pair beer with dessert? I now there are dessert wines, but for some reason I just don’t think of beer when I am craving a sweet treat. However, these desserts will not disappoint!
Yummm, Brownies! Sticking with the theme, we served Beer Brownies. They were super decadent and chocolatey! These yummy morsels came from Kyra’s Bake Shop. She seriously makes some of the best baked goods I’ve ever had! You guys need to totally get your hands on some of these!
We also served Adult Root Beer Floats. I didn’t even know that was a thing until I started planning for this party. PSA: these were super sweet! Don’t get me wrong, I love sweet things, but these were even a bit too sweet for me. Gasp! I never thought I would say that. They were still yummy though!
Did you know “hard” Root Beer comes in several flavors too? Traditional Root Beer, Cream Soda, or even Black Cherry! There are a ton of flavors out there and I bet even more will be coming on the market as these gain popularity! It’s a really fun alternative to the original Root Beer float!
beer party favors
I always like to send my guest away with a little something to remember the party by! These Beer Me Bottle Openers were the perfect take-away favor. Plus, no one likes to hunt for a bottle opener at a party. I had these things laying around everywhere and I even tied one to this galvanized pail, just in case.
Now every time your friends and family reach for a cold one, they will remember my hubby’s awesome party! I hope some of these tips were useful for you! The bottom line is, parties should be fun! Have fun at your next Beer Bash and be creative!
